Something unprecedented is happening in the enterprise hardware market. The largest technology companies in the world are decommissioning GPU clusters that are barely two years old—not because they are broken, but because something faster arrived. The buyer profile for refurbished enterprise GPUs is distinctly different from the original hyperscaler customer. Three segments dominate demand:

Companies with AI ambitions but without hyperscaler budgets. A refurbished A100 cluster at $3,500 per GPU delivers the same training capability it did when it was new—and for workloads that do not require bleeding-edge throughput, the performance is more than sufficient. Fine-tuning LLMs, running inference at moderate scale, and training domain-specific models are all viable on previous-generation hardware.

2. Academic and Research Institutions

Universities and national research labs have always operated on constrained budgets. The GPU secondary market has made compute resources accessible that were previously out of reach.
